The ‘90s Called: Why the Doodle Print is Bringing Retro Back

For those (like us) who grew up in the ‘90s, we were the generation that straddled two worlds: one without the internet and one where it began to change everything. Before cell phones took over, where we had just one family computer, where logging onto the internet meant tying up the phone line. If you wanted to call a friend, you didn’t know who would answer—mom, dad, or sibling—you had to speak to them. There was something so exciting about the unpredictability of communication back then, something that’s almost lost in today’s always-connected world.

And when it came to passing time, we didn’t have smartphones to scroll through—no Instagram or TikTok to get lost in. Instead, we got creative. Remember sitting in class, zoning out and letting your pen take over the page? That’s where the name Doodle comes in. A doodle is that mindless, creative expression you’d draw while thinking about something else—something those of this era all did in school notebooks when daydreaming was the only distraction available. For us, the Doodle print is that same free-spirited creativity expressed on fabric. 

Fashion, like life, is cyclical, and the '90s are having their moment again. But beyond just nostalgia, there’s a joy that comes with these retro styles. The Doodle print makes us upbeat because it reminds us of a time when everything felt simpler, but also full of possibility. It brings back the thrill of experimenting with bright colors and crazy patterns without overthinking it. Just like back then, fashion was about having fun.
