November Cocktail of the Month: Dark 'n Stormy

A monthly cocktail recipe from your Tizz & Tonic Team

Since we are cocktail enthusiasts (enjoying responsibly of course and never at the sewing machines) and have our studio located in an old cocktail lounge we thought it would be very fitting to share with you some of our go-to-cocktails. Some of these we particularly love to enjoy after a long day of undie making.

So, every month we will bring you a simple, enjoyable recipe. It’s a great way to discover new and old style cocktails and diversify your mental library of drinks. This will surely come in handy next time you're stirring up something delicious for your favourite people. We try to keep each cocktail selection basic since most home bars are not going to have all the necessary ingredients. And because we are just the right amount of fancy.

Cocktail Of the Month: Dark 'N' Stormy.

We chose the classic Dark 'n' Stormy because we think it really fits to the month of November - darker days and the calm before the (Holiday) storm.

The Dark ’n' Stormy is a highball cocktail made with dark rum and ginger beer which is served over ice and garnished with a slice of lime. Yum yum. Lime juice and simple syrup can also be built in for an added adventure.

The Dark 'n' Stormy is actually the unofficial drink of Bermuda and drink of choice for the international boating and sailing community - at least that's what our pirate sources say.

Goslings Rum (from Bermuda believe it or not) actually holds the trademark to the Dark 'n’ Stormy so if you are making this cocktail with a different dark rum I guess you could very well be making a Dunkel und Stürmisch or a Bleak n' Cloudy. Whatever floats your boat. Argh, Matey!

4 Key Ingredients for The Dark n' Stormy

  • Ginger Beer

Ginger beer is a non-alcoholic beverage with a robust and spicy flavour. It’s made with a blend of ginger, water and sugar that’s fermented with yeast, then carbonated. It's fizzy and zing-y.

  • Goslings Dark Rum

Or another dark rum of choice.

  • Lime wedge
    As garnish
  • Extra: Lime juice or splash of simple (sugar) syrup
    For the sweeties on board
  • Ice

How to Prepare:

 4-5 oz Ginger Beer

1.5 oz Rum

Build on ice and garnish with a wedge of lime

*optional 1 part lime juice*

Ahoy me hearties this one is super easy to prepare. Just fill a highball glass with ice, add the ginger beer and pour the rum on top. The rum will sit on top creating a more stacked looking drink. It is simple and surprisingly tasty, not too sweet or strong - just with the perfect amount of zing thanks to the ginger.

And there you have it. Sip, enjoy and get ready to set sail into the Holiday season.
